What Will BLDC Motors Do In Your Range Hood

If kitchen is the heart of every home, then picking the right range hood for your kitchen is crucial, because it will enhance your cooking experience. For the performance of a range hood, a right BLDC motor is expected. So, what will BLDC motors do?

    Being quality in air circulation

Technically, the built-in speed control of BLDC motors is programmed for more flexibility and provides wider speed range, which means at their highest speed, the motors can exhaust the air more efficiently, while at lowest speed, the range hoods operate silently and make less noises than AC motorized ones, thanks to the feature of BLDC motors that’s allowed to be engineered, and thus decreased the resonance.

    Being safer

BLDC motors contain multiple protections, including over-load, over-voltage and clogging, to reduce risks of over-heat and sparks that usually happen when operating, providing homeowners with safer environment. However, traditional AC motors are generally without sufficient safety mechanism, so they would be more dangerous for household daily use.

    Being more efficient

Starting from Jan. 2018, EEI (Energy Efficiency Index) will be set up in EU as an indicator for home appliances, including range hoods, as shown below, with A++ as the most efficient, and E as the least efficient.

    A++

    EEI<37

    A+

    37≦EEI<45

    A

    45≦EEI<55

    B

    55≦EEI<70

    C

    70≦EEI<85

    D

    85≦EEI<100

    E

    EEI≧100

Basically, only BLDC motors can work to make the whole system to A++ level. According to our research on range hoods in current British and Italian markets, most products are lower-class with inefficient AC or shaded-pole motors, however, with more energy-related implementations coming in, products embedded BLDC motors would gradually be a mainstream. For those products with D or E label, it’s a matter of time that they will be phased out due to lack of efficiency.

A BLDC motor consumes at least 50% less energy than an AC motor under the same air volume. When it comes to electricity fee, a traditional AC motor with only 20-30% transmission rate costs nearly 5 times more than a BLDC motor with 85% of energy efficiency, based on our research from the household electricity usage.

BLDC motors, in the beginning, may be more costly, however, the up-front payment is a drop in the ocean compared to the motor’s electricity demand over its several years of service.

    What Genese has to offer

To catch up with the trend of eco-friendliness and stricter energy rules, Genese has been developing BLDC motor solutions for years now. Genese has the controller, power module integrated in the motor, saving lots of time out sourcing. For the ease of installation, the mounting of our motors is based on the international standards.
